Raising Heartrates is excited to announce that proceeds from its 2007 Calendar and fundraising efforts will be dedicated to the Helen Hayes Hospital (HHH) Adapted Sports and Recreation Program. The hospital is the New York metropolitan regionís premier, and one of the nationís leading, specialty physical rehabilitation facilities, dedicated to enabling individuals of all abilities to lead active, healthy lifestyles.
The triathletes of Raising Heartrates enthusiastically embrace the spirit of fitness and competition and we are proud to partner with HHH, an organization equally committed to challenging people of all abilities to be the best they can be. We are inspired by the patients and staff at Helen Hayes Hospital who work hard every day to make recovery a reality for individuals with stroke, amputation, paralysis and other disabling conditions.
Participation in sports and recreational pursuits helps to make recovery possible. The hospitalís recreational therapy staff, along with physical therapists and other rehabilitation professionals, encourage patients and individuals with disabilities living in the community to explore new sports, as well as activities enjoyed prior to being injured.
Helen Hayes Hospital is involved in offering a range of adapted sports activities, including:
- Handcycling
- Kayaking
- Snow skiing
- Sailing
- Softball
- Bowling
- Golf
This year, Raising Heartrates is earmarking the Helen Hayes Hospital hand cycling program as the recipient of its fundraising efforts. The hospital is home to Helenís Angels, a competitive hand cycling team. Hand cycling builds strength and endurance in individuals with spinal cord injury and other mobility limitations. All funds raised will go toward the purchase of additional hand cycles, expanding the program to more individuals who are awaiting cycles.
